Bangladesh though becomes the second largest exporter in RMG sector still facing many problems. Its main problem is profit motive attitude of the owner and retailer. They always think about their profit but never think about the betterment of workers.

Buyers always demand price cut.

A Dhaka-based manufacture exports cotton long sleeve tops for a Spanish buyer from 2005. Manufacturing cost and wages doubled within last 8 years. But the buyer comes back with repeat order and lowering the price each time. Buyer pushed down price for this year to $ 2.40/piece from 3.40 in 2005. Beside this on different pretexts 33% (5% commission +2% buyer’s men + 15% fabric + 10% accessories) price was off before manufacturer had start production. After take back almost 33%, they are leaving 67 % for manufacturers to complete the job. With the remaining, manufacturers have to buy fabrics-accessories, make clothes, pay establishment costs, ship out clothes and make profit as well. At the end take its toll on workers.

Actually Bangladeshi RMG manufacturers are forced to subsidies its buyers.

 Many factories have compliance but do not work that unit properly. The worker works here in really miserable condition. They do not get sufficient money for their living that’s why they lead their life in real miseries. The workers by using their thoughts and sweats can make us beautiful but we/ by using their thoughts, put them into miseries. We do not even want to pay a minimum cost of their livings. All the times we say about humanity. Is it humanity??

 I do not think that it is the only duty of the owner of the garments but it is the duty of its user too. We can do much more for them. When we wear dresses do we think ever how many peoples and their hardship involves making me nice-smart and uphold my prestige? All the buyers (local & foreigner) need to take care of the workers because money is obviously not above humanity.

Many of the consumers now take their responsibility for the miserable workers. Already European Union, Canada, Japan and many other countries spread their hearts for the workers. Canadian consumers want to pay 50 cent extra for the betterment of the worker and we appreciate this.

Despite of all demerits still we are the second largest exporter of this sector in the world because of our quality of workers and their works. Few days before USA holds our GSP facility, though it’s a bad news for our RMG sector but could not stop us from making the people of the world nice, beautiful and smart. Buyers always come here for our cheap costing price and of our best quality also.

I, personally sometimes visited some of our big garments manufacturing companies, they said me that they have no capacity to take order for the upcoming four five years or more. Here you have enough opportunities to make you as a businessman and you can earn much money by purchasing stock lot from our country at a low cost. When buyers place order for their product, our garments always made minimum 5percent extra called leftover. After shipment factory [BKMEA MEMBERS LIST] sold this leftover products in local market/buyer. Many peoples are now involved this stock lot business. Some of them are personally known by me. They are collecting the leftover goods from various factories like sweater, woven, knit etc. After item ways shorting out/QC they are looking for foreign buyers who are available in Bangladesh. Now a day foreign buyers are frequently comes to Bangladesh and purchases huge quantity RMG stock lot. Most of the foreign buyers are come from Turkey, South Africa, Sri-Lanka, India, Portugal, Spain. Dubai, Pakistan, Germany, Italy and from many more countries around the world. You can easily take those extra goods at a minimum price. It may help you to earn a lot of money.

People's Republic of Bangladesh Government, Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) and Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BKMEA) work together to clean up the country’s image on the global stage after Rana Plaza (an eight storied building named Rana Plaza crumbling down at Savar and left over more than eleven hundred garment workers dead) and Tazreen Fashions tragedy. More than one programs have been announced, lot of funds have been pledged affected which is still ongoing. Labor law had been upgraded by our government and we can assure our buyer that this sector will be much more advancing what we have now. Our new pay commission will be published soon and our workers will benefited. BD’s central Bank announced low-cost loans for garments factory upgrades.

We especially thankful to our European partners to support us by keeping our GSP facility and it will help for the betterment of our workers and obviously our country too. Japan (our trusted friend) gave Taka 100 crore (taka 79=1 USD) to help upgrade working conditions in garments factories.

Accident always been an accident, such as Rana Plaza tragedy and Tazreen Fashions firs though these are the painful incidents for our country, we can only hope and pray that this will never happen to us again. 91 Years Old Ghulam Should Spend Next 90 Years (Till Death) behind Bars in Jail !

Ghulam Azam, Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Ex-Chief Will Spend Next 90 Years behind Bars in Jail.

Ghulam Azam (91) has been jailed for 90 years for his involvement in crimes against humanity during the liberation war in 1971 with Pakistan. The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT)-1 led by ATM Fazle Kabir issued the verdict today (15^th July 2013).

The judge said in the verdict, Ghulam Azam deserves maximum penalty for all the crimes he committed. But this verdict has considered his age and health condition.

He was facing five charges including involvement in murder and torture of unarmed people, conspiracy, planning, incitement and complicity in genocide, and crimes against humanity. All five war crime charges were proved. The charges said that after receiving a written order from Ghulam Azam, Pakistani forces killed 38 people.

Victims of wartime cruelty and their family members and the whole nation have been waiting 41 years for this day. Majority people believe Ghulam Azam was the key character behind the mass murder during the war. Among with this people, the prosecution had sought the death penalty for Azam whom they described as a "lighthouse" who guided war criminals and the "architect" of many atrocities including genocide, murder, torture of civilians, and other crimes against humanity.

Central Command Council of Bangladesh Muktijoddha Sangsad, Ganojagaran Mancha rejected the verdict.

Freedom Fighters are not accepting this verdict. They believe that anything less than a death sentence is not a worthy verdict. They also claim that Ghulam Azam was the main villain of 1971.

“I reject this verdict, I reject this verdict" - a freedom fighter shouted in an angry on hearing about the judgment

After hearing the news of the verdict, Gonojagoron Mancha activists rejected it and blockaded Shahbag intersection instantly.  The verdict failed to reflect the demands of whole nation and therefore, we are rejecting the verdict – said Gonojagoron Mancha spokesperson Imran H Sarkar.

We are waiting long time to end but not for that type verdict ! We wanted capital punishment for the main culprit. The verdict came as a shock to us and had let down the mass people, freedom fighters and victims of the criminal.  

Robot Recognized Bangla (Bengali) Language.

Sadli Sultan and Soumin Islam, two students of RUET (Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology) have made this new robot.

They are studying in the department of electrical & electronic engineering (EEE), informed that this robot is the first device that capable to understand the Bangla command. They claimed that even speech impaired people also control this robot by the signs and gestures. With an internet connection any one can control it remotely. It could be positioned preciously by using GPS (Global Positioning System) . 

Not only have that, this robot also capable of sending live stream of video via the internet- captured with its camera.

9^th July 2013, this robot was exhibited on RUET campus.

This is not only the great pride of that students or RUET, but also the great pride of whole country.

Ice Cream Market Heats Up By Brands Battle

Ice cream market is a growing market in Bangladesh. Change of people’s income level and life style this market has developed huge consumer in recent years. Though it is a seasonal business, many new domestic and foreign companies want to tap that growth and making a venture in this sector.

Kazi Farms - a local giant in poultry sector already launched its ice cream early this year.

Golden Harvest Agro, which presently ready-to-eat foods markets, plans to enter the business. By the yearend, the company eyes to launch its ice cream.

An official of Olive Tree said that Cold Stone Creamery (a concern of US-based Kahala) is set to open its first store this year with Olive Tree Foods as its local franchisee. All of them encouraged to enter this market by the growing buying power of people.

Kazi Food Industries Ltd is gradually expanding distribution of its ice cream brand, Bellissimo.

Md Sajjadur Rahman, deputy manager (brand) of Kazi Food Industries Ltd said, “The upper middle class is our target customer groups, where is a demand in premium segment of the market “. He also informed that nearly taka 550 crore market of branded ones now in Bangladesh. 15-20 percent of it’s as premium ice creams account.

 “Quality is the main matters in the ice cream industry, not price. The firms should deliver quality products to sustain in the competition,” Rahman added.

“Growing buying power of people boosts the demand for ice cream and we want to tap that growth,” said Mohius Samad Choudhury, chief operating officer (COO) of Golden Harvest Agro Industries Ltd. He informed that they will make ice cream through one of their subsidiaries: Golden Harvest Ice Cream Ltd. which will need an investment of nearly Tk 170 crore to set up the factory and develop a distribution channel. He also said that companies existing 18,000 outlets with frozen facilities is their big advantage.

Cold Stone Creamery linked with Olive Tree by a ten-year franchise agreement to open store in Bangladesh, said Salman Shahab, general manager of Olive Tree Foods Ltd. “We want to open our first store this year in a posh area to cater to the middle and upper middle class,” he said. They also have aims to putting their ice cream at retails after open four Cold Stone Creamery stores including first one within next four years. Cold Stone stores are operating in more than 420 international locations and in 20 countries, including China, Singapore, South Korea, Canada, Nigeria, Egypt and the United Arab Emirates.

According to the annual report of Golden Harvest Ago Industries for 2012, branded ice cream market share is nearly 85 percent of the country’s annual market of Tk 650 crore. Three recognized brand ice cream lead the market now in Bangladesh. According to industry insiders, Abdul Monem’s Igloo, Dhaka Ice Cream’s Polar and Kwality Food’s Kwality account for nearly 70 percent of the branded market. Imported ice creams of foreign brands such as Mövenpick, Baskin-Robbins, Anderson’s and Häagen-Dazs are also creating a space here.
